Saraswati Puja | Basant Panchami Vidhi And Vastu Tips For Good Luck
Saraswati Puja is a Hindu festival that celebrates the goddess of learning, wisdom, and arts. It is also known as Vasant Panchami, as it falls on the fifth day of the bright lunar fortnight of the Magha month, which corresponds to January-February in the Gregorian calendar. This year, Saraswati Puja will be celebrated on February 14, 2024.

Saraswati Puja is a great occasion to seek the blessings of the goddess and start new ventures in life. It is also a time to worship books, pens, musical instruments, and other tools of knowledge and creativity. In this blog, we will share with you the Saraswati Puja Vidhi, or the procedure of performing the puja at home, and some Vastu tips to enhance the positive energy and luck in your house.

How to perform Saraswati Puja at home?
To perform Saraswati Puja at home, you will need the following items:
- An idol or picture of Goddess Saraswati and Lord Ganesha
- A copper or brass Kalash (pot) filled with water
- Five mango leaves and a betel leaf
- A coconut
- A yellow cloth
- A white cloth
- A red cloth
- Rice, turmeric, kumkum, and sandalwood paste
- Flowers, especially yellow ones
- Fruits and sweets
- Incense sticks and oil lamp
- Books, pens, paint brushes, musical instruments, or any other items related to your field of interest

Follow these steps to perform the puja:
1. Clean the puja room and remove any clutter. Set up a mandir or altar in the north direction, which is auspicious according to Vastu Shastra.
2. Place a yellow cloth on the altar and put the idol or picture of Goddess Saraswati on it. Place a white cloth on the right side and put the idol or picture of Lord Ganesha on it. Lord Ganesha is worshipped first to remove any obstacles in the puja.
3. Place the Kalash on the left side of the altar. Put five mango leaves in the water and a betel leaf on the mouth of the pot. Place a coconut on top of the betel leaf and cover it with a red cloth. This is the symbol of Goddess Lakshmi, who is also invoked for prosperity and wealth.
4. Decorate the altar with flowers, garlands, rice, turmeric, kumkum, and sandalwood paste. Light an oil lamp and incense sticks. Offer fruits and sweets to the deities.
5. Keep your books, pens, paint brushes, musical instruments, or any other items that you want to bless on the altar. You can also wear yellow clothes, as it is the favorite color of Goddess Saraswati.
6. Start the puja by chanting the following mantra:
Yaa kundendu tushar haar dhawala, yaa shubhra vastravrutha, yaa veena varadanda manditakara yaa shweta padmasanaa. Yaa brahmachyuta shankara prabhrutibhi devai sadaa vandita, saa maama pathu saraswati bhagavati nishshesha, jadyapaha. Aum saraswathyae namah, dhyanartham, pushpam samarpayami.
This mantra praises the beauty and grace of Goddess Saraswati, who holds a veena, a book, and a rosary in her hands, and sits on a white lotus. It also asks her to protect us from ignorance and dullness.
7. Perform the aarti by lighting a lamp and circling it around the deities while singing devotional songs or reciting shlokas. You can also listen to some classical music, as it is believed to please the goddess.
8. Offer the prasad and flowers to the goddess and distribute them among your family and friends. You can also touch your books, pens, paint brushes, musical instruments, or any other items to the idol or picture of the goddess and seek her blessings.

Vastu tips for Saraswati Puja
Vastu Shastra is the ancient science of architecture and design that aims to harmonize the human life with the natural forces and elements. By following some simple Vastu tips, you can enhance the positive energy and luck in your house during Saraswati Puja.
- The north direction is considered auspicious and the idol or picture of Goddess Saraswati should be placed here. When choosing an idol or picture of the deity for the Saraswati Puja, make sure the goddess has the mudra sitting on the lotus flower. Avoid an idol or image where the goddess is in a standing posture.
- The color yellow is associated with the goddess and it represents joy, happiness, and intellect. You can use yellow flowers, clothes, curtains, cushions, or carpets to decorate your house. You can also wear yellow clothes or accessories to attract the goddess's favor.
- The sound of music and bells is believed to create positive vibrations and invite the goddess. You can play some soothing music, especially classical or instrumental, in your house. You can also ring a bell or a conch before and after the puja to ward off any negative energy.
- The aroma of incense and flowers is also important to create a pleasant and sacred atmosphere. You can use jasmine, marigold, lotus, or any other fragrant flowers for the puja. You can also burn some incense sticks or candles with natural or floral scents.
- The cleanliness and hygiene of your house is also essential to attract the goddess. You should clean your house thoroughly and remove any dust, dirt, or clutter. You should also dispose of any broken or unused items, as they can create stagnation and blockage in the flow of energy.

By following these Saraswati Puja Vidhi and Vastu tips, you can make the most of this auspicious festival and seek the blessings of the goddess of learning, wisdom, and arts. May Goddess Saraswati shower you with knowledge, creativity, and success. Happy Saraswati Puja!
